St Maria Goretti is a teenager's story of courage. Nowadays we often come across incidents of rape in the newspapers. Seventeen-year-old Alexander stayed with the Goretti family helping them out in their farming. As the days passed he began to develop an interest in young Maria. Sensing evil intentions behind his movements, Maria often avoided him, thus enraging Alexander. As a last resort, he threatened her with a knife but Maria held out bravely. It was on July 2, 1902, that twelve-year-old Maria succumbed to the injuries inflicted on her by Alexander. A young and innocent girl, Maria courageously defended her dignity and integrity as a woman.
