SPIRITUALITY AND MISSION
Spirituality
To arrive at this point of union with Christ we take the means which Christ himself has given us: His Body/Blood and His Word–The Eucharist and the Bible. The Eucharist, celebrated and received, is our daily sustenance. The daily Hour of Adoration, in which we read/listen to the Word of God is the school where we get our training. It is the perfect school because the teacher is Christ, the Son of God; and of course, he is available always and everywhere. And the book is the wisdom of God, the Bible.
In this our endeavour to become one with Christ, Mary is our model; The one who gathered and guided the apostles in the cenacle, and prayed with them for the coming of the Holy Spirit–Mary, Mother, Teacher, and Queen of Apostles.
Blessed James Alberione, our Founder tells us:
“You were born of the Eucharist.
Your food is the Eucharist.
Your spirituality is the Gospel
lived in its entirety as explained by St Paul the Apostle.
Your mother and model is Mary.”
Finally, ours is a spirituality of communion and communication, modelled on the love and communion among three Divine Persons of the Holy Trinity. Communication pervades every aspect of our life, including spirituality. This spirituality is lived also in common, in community prayer. Moreover, we bring all the people of God into our prayer–all who work with the means of communications and all who receive their message.
Ours is an integral spirituality. Our founder said: “Bring the whole human person to Christ and the whole Christ to every human person.”
Pauline Spirituality cannot be separated from Pauline Mission.
Mission
While the means of our mission are the modern means of communication, the content of the mission is the Gospel of Jesus. Our goal is to reach every person with the Good News of Jesus, as St Paul strived. At the same time our founder said: Do not speak only of religion and the Bible. Speak of everything in a Christian way. We have to integrate the message into the new culture which is created by the new means of communication.
Just as the Pauline Spirituality is integral, the Pauline Mission too is integral. The Christ we preach must be the whole Christ–his word, his example and his grace. And the target of our mission is the whole person–mind, will and heart; the whole strata of the human society–children, youth, adults and the aged.
As in the spirituality, so also in our mission, we model ourselves on Mary, the greatest apostle and disciple who brought forth Jesus the redeemer to the world. We want to bring Jesus to all humanity with great fervour, proclaiming the Truth that saves, the Way that leads to the Father, and his Life of grace.
St Paul is our inspirer and protector in our mission. He strove to reach out to the whole world, in person or through his letters. May he be alive today in the Paulines!
