Who We Are

We, the Sisters of the Daughters of St Paul, are a Congregation of women consecrated to God in the Church to evangelize through the instruments of social communication.

Our Mission: To Proclaim the Gospel using the Means of Social Communications For over 100 years we have been serving humankind through our ministry to religious, clergy, and people in general to help connect with each other and deepen the spirituality in each person in the context of the secular digital culture, which we are living in. Following our model Saint Paul, we live Christ so that we can give Christ and his values to today’s digital generation and the ones to come.

Founded in Alba, Italy by Blessed James Alberione on 15 June 1915, we are part of a group of Institutions he started that all together make up the Pauline Family.

Ever attentive to the signs of the times and to the changes taking place in the 20th century, Fr James Alberione intuitively understood the special role woman could play in society and in the Church, and the unique contribution that consecrated women could make to evangelization in the far-reaching and complex world of communications. As God’s plan would have it, Teresa Merlo became the first woman to collaborate and concretize the vision James Alberione received in order that women participate in this mighty evangelical work. Sr Thecla Merlo, as she was called after religious profession, became the first Superior General, and thus, Co-Foundress of the Daughters of St Paul.

The name Daughters of St Paul (Paulines) indicates the profound relationship between the members of the Institute and St Paul. In the footsteps of the Apostle, and animated by his spirit, we strive to live and proclaim Jesus Master, Way, Truth and Life in the modern arena of communication. St Paul is the inspiration and model of our life, spirituality and mission.

Today, the Congregation is present and active in 52 nations in all the continents of world.

Our

Indian Presence

In India, we began in 1951 with a house at Vile Parle, Mumbai. But soon, by 1955 we shifted and opened our Printing Press and Publishing House in Bandra, Mumbai at 143 Waterfield Road, where it still stands.

This complex consists of a Publishing House, where we print and publish books of socio-cultural and religious value by authors from India and abroad; Communications Department where we have been producing music and films on socio-cultural and religious themes; Formation House, where young women who feel called to vocation of the Daughters of St Paul are trained in Pauline spirituality, charism and values.

The Provincialate holds the Administrative setup for the Indian Province and is housed in the same complex as the Local Community of Sisters. The PAULINE BOOK & MEDIA CENTRE is run by the Local community Sisters. Here books, multimedia materials, religious articles and liturgical items are made available.

The Indian Province (estd 1965) has 15 houses which run 18 Pauline Book & Media Centres nation-wide—in Ahmedabad, Bandra (Mumbai), Bangalore (2), Borivli (Mumbai), Panjim (2), Mapusa, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mangalore, Nagpur, New Delhi, Secunderabad, Shillong, Trichy, Trivandrum, Vasai. Canonically we are called DAUGHTERS OF ST PAUL, but we are registered as PAULINE SISTERS BOMBAY SOCIETY as a Charitable Trust under the Bombay Charitable Trust Act of 1951. For sales and transactions, we go as PAOLINE BOOKS AND MEDIA PRIVATE LIMITED. Our website www.paulineindia.org hosts an online shop, for the sale of our productions and information.

Our DIGITAL PRESENCE ONLINE

Since 2011 we have a YouTube Channel, PaulinesIndia, where we evangelize through videos by promoting social, religious, cultural, and national values specially on particular occasions specific to the Catholic Church and our nation. These are prepared by our Sisters in the Communications Department.

We run two Android Apps—one for E-book sales i.e. Pauline India (link) and the other for E-music sales, i.e. Pauline Music (link). These cater to the digitally savvy generation.

We are also actively present on popular Social Media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Snapchat. We regularly publish an E-News bulletin on Blogger too. All the links are available on this site.
